Hamilton and Corvallis Living
Hamilton is approximately 45 south of Missoula and some 47 miles north of the Idaho border. The town offers residents all the amenities of a large metropolitan city plus easy access to millions of acres of heavily-forested public lands and mountains that support almost any form of outdoor recreation that one can imagine. Hamilton is considered the fastest-growing city in Montana and most of that growth is due to its location within the heart of the Bitterroot Valley. From towering mountain ranges to lush, wooded forests, this part of the state is an outdoor paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Montana is divided into six tourism countries based on location and geography. Russell Country is located in north central Montana and is filled with rich landscapes that draw artists from all over the world. Missouri River Country is in the state’s northeast corner. Fishing and other water-related activities are fantastic in this part of Montana. Custer Country is situated in the southeast corner and is most notably known for the historic battle that occurred in 1876 where Colonel Custer and his troops were victorious. Yellowstone Country is in south central Montana and provides easy access into the world’s first National Park, Yellowstone Park. Gold West Country is in the southwest corner and offers pristine land, wedged between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. Glacier Country is located in the northwest corner of the state and is home to the beautiful Glacier National Park. The country is also home to Ravalli County and the towns of Hamilton, Corvallis and Pinesdale.

A recreational dreamland of sorts, Glacier Country is a fantastic place for resident to live and for outsiders to visit. An abundance of fishing, hunting, swimming, camping, hiking, biking, boating, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and water rafting make this part of the state one of the most exciting outdoor playgrounds. The weather is an excellent accomplice as well, bringing more than 300 inches of snow to the Lost Trail Ski Resort during the winter. In the summer, more than 16 hours of sunlight make the days long and warm. During the spring, the Bitterroot Valley jumps to life with fragrant apple blossoms covering the foothills. In the fall, red and gold leaves dominate the trees while snow-capped mountains cast long shadows over the valley floor that is filled with vivid colors, fruit-bearing trees and wildlife such as Deer, elk and moose in full antler.

While Hamilton serves as the valley’s business center, offering everything from strip malls to an intimate downtown district, Corvallis and Pinesdale remain far enough removed from the city lights. Corvallis was named for the town of Corvallis, Oregon, by settlers who migrated east from that area. Corvallis is located along U.S. Highway 93 between Stevensville and Hamilton. Commutes into Hamilton are simple as is longer drives to larger cities in Montana such as Missoula and Bozeman.

Pinesdale is home to two of Montana’s earliest settlements, St. Mary’s Mission and Fort Owen. The town borders the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness, which is a 1.3 million acre wilderness that straddles the Continental Divide on Montana’s western border with Idaho. Several canyons take hikers and horseback riders to high mountain lakes where abundant wildlife is present. Pinesdale is also located along U.S. Highway 93 just north of Hamilton.

Like most areas throughout Montana, the towns of Ravalli County are not flushed up against one another. Although towns such as Hamilton, Corvallis and Pinesdale all border each other, the amount of wildlife and open space between them make them feel worlds apart even though a drive from one to another can be accomplished in a matter of minutes. This serene environment, combined with the overwhelmingly relaxing lifestyle inspired by the great outdoors makes this the perfect place to live, work and play for those who appreciate the beauty of Mother Nature.
